Women have created a database of ‘bad ex-boyfriends’ to protect themselves from dating drama

A database has been created for despised women to make fun of their ex-boyfriends and rate their bad behavior.

The Bad Ex-Boyfriend List is designed for American women to protect each other from bad dating experiences and is part of a larger online community for women.

The list contains the names, cities and states of men who have harmed women in the past and asks that women do not include phone numbers, emails and home addresses in their entries.

Each entry details instances of cheating, manipulation, abuse and addictions, and is searchable – the site encourages women to seek out their lovers to clear doubts or confirm concerns.

The creator of the list and its Girl Power Girl Strong host website, Tracy Tegan says the site is a “place where you can report your ex-boyfriend for cheating on you or just being a jerk.”

“Through this process we’ve built, you can reveal the truth about him and save lives,” she said.

“If there’s nothing, then you’re one of the lucky ones!” But if you end up finding anything related to him, you know your doubts were well founded.

Entries range from simple sentences to small essays. Tegan says that in addition to warning others of potential dating risks, detailing bad experiences themselves can be a cathartic and empowering process.

Tegan wrote in a Newsweek op-ed that the list “has been compared to Trip Advisor because women are able to rate the men they’ve been with, based on how those men have treated them in their relationships.” .

Mixed responses

While some are all for it, others are wary of prejudice and defamation if the limited details still offer a solid connection to the topic.

“This is absolutely heinous as it is completely subjective and can cause incalculable harm to a person based on a mere opinion! This should be stopped immediately! one person wrote on Facebook.

“I have mixed feelings about this – it might help other people see through their BS and save them from terrible heartache. There are serial users (men and women) who still don’t say the truth and just want to use someone to feel better – for their own selfish reasons,” another person wrote.

“It’s not nice. There are three sides to every story. His, hers and the truth,” one person wrote on Facebook.

But for those who have been personally wronged, turning a blind eye to the problematic nature of the list seems much easier.

“My ex was on one of those sites…I wish I had the warning!…He screwed me up so financially, emotionally, parentally…He almost made me fall…yes others deserve warning,” one person wrote on Facebook.
