The California Department of Education is pleased to announce the highly anticipated release of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Database, designed for school nutrition programs and containing information on USDA Nutrients, Allergens and Ingredients for Foods.
The complete product information in the database is provided by the manufacturers for USDA Foods dropship (brown box) products. The database includes information such as material code, brand name, nutritional information, serving size, allergen information, ingredients, and kosher and halal certification where applicable.
Program operators can access this up-to-date resource to help manage meal planning to meet nutrition standards and provide safe meals for students with food allergies and other special dietary needs.
The USDA Foods Database and written instructions on how to navigate the database are available at the USDA Foods Database web page
Please look for further announcements regarding a USDA-hosted webinar on navigating the USDA Food Database in the near future.
