New ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ PS5 cover spotted in store database, release imminent?

Good, some things is happening behind the scenes regarding Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 update, which will also join an Xbox Series X/S version.

Twitter account @PlayStationSizewhich normally scours PlayStation databases for the size of future games or patches, has managed to find what appears to be a brand new cover art for Cyberpunk 2077, and it looks like it will be for the new PS5 version of the game.

The account goes on to speculate a mid-February to early March release, but I don’t think there’s anything in the database that specifically says so. That might be true, given that CDPR has said this update will arrive in Q1 2022, and we’re already all the way through January. But I would definitely caution them against that exact window mentioned, given the back-to-back releases of Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen. Early February or mid to late March seems to be the best choice.

As for the art itself, it’s female V, and while we’ve seen female “cover” variants of V before, this is a new pose and brand new art that can’t be found anywhere else on the internet, so I don’t think it’s some kind of elaborate fake, especially give the source.

The idea that Cyberpunk 2077 might get a new cover for its next-gen release may lend credence to theories that it’s a “soft relaunch” of the game, which combines the new releases with another big patch. lots of updates. In leaks, previously shot by CDPR, it was called the “Samurai Edition” of the game, but even if it’s not called that, I believe a relaunch is sort of the plan here.

As always, CDPR says it’s keeping its promise to make this a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Massive technical challenges with the original game have long delayed this release from next-gen, as it was supposed to be released in the second half of 2021. Along with that release should be patch 1.5, but we have no idea if that will be more bug fixes or real, meaningful quality of life improvements of the game, as well as things like the long-promised free downloadable content as well. At a minimum, I assume New Game Plus will come with this update, as it would give players a reason to return to the game on new consoles, even if they’ve already beaten it.

Guess we might hear an announcement about that soon, and the release might be closer than we think. Maybe even early February here. I asked CPPR and they won’t tell me, ha. Stay tuned for more official information.
