Role Responsibilities:

  • Compile SOPs for database health checks and automate checks where possible.
  • Ensure monitoring is configured on all application components via supported APM toolsets (Grafana, Prometheus, Kibana, Cloudwatch, etc.).
  • Maintain documentation detailing monitoring configured on all databases.
  • Ensure integration between monitoring toolsets and ISO 24/7 monitoring center is in place to ensure critical alarms are monitored after hours.
  • Maintain documentation detailing alarms configured on all databases.
  • Resolve service requests and incidents escalated from levels 1 and 2 through the Remedy ticketing system.
  • If necessary, contact the database vendors to seek a solution, if applicable.
  • Ensure configuration items (CI) for database components are configured on the Remedy ticketing system.
  • Provide support for deployments where intervention is required at the database level.
  • Ensure issue tickets are opened and tracked on Jira for any recurring incidents; incidents for which there is no known permanent solution or incidents with pending actions related to operational improvements.
  • Carry out regular reviews of problem tickets.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant security policies.
  • Provide insights and recommendations on database performance and capacity based on observed trends and future demand.
  • Review and improve/optimize database performance.
  • SQL optimization for inefficient queries.
  • Enterprise database architecture review.
  • Implementing database best practices.
  • Implementation of archiving and backup strategies.
  • Compilation and maintenance of technical recovery plans to be implemented in the event that DR failover needs to be invoked.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly review meetings.
  • Provide support to bring new services into production and ensure that mandatory operational controls are implemented before a service goes live.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Relevant higher education.

Relevant Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in database design, implementation, performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • Experience with Open Source/Linux development and production environments.
  • Experience in designing and implementing database replication strategies.
  • Strong analytical, communication and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to work under pressure and multi-task.
