An overloaded server at Michigan-based web hosting company Noozhawk took the site offline for nearly two hours on Saturday night.
During the outage, readers attempting to access Noozhawk instead encountered a “524 Error” message from Cloudflare, which provides online security for the company. The message typically appears when a server is experiencing more traffic than expected or is down for maintenance.
In Noozhawk’s case, it was an overloaded server in one of the data centers operated by Nexcess, a managed hosting company based in Southfield, Michigan.
After discovering that the site was heavily impacted by a Facebook crawler, Nexcess technicians isolated the program and brought Noozhawk back online via its redundant servers just before 8 p.m.
